50cal Uppers for your AR : No paperwork

www.ferret50.com

This company makes 50cal uppers that will pin on to your ar lower. They are BOLT action uppers. This allows you to carry your 50cal upper and interchange out in the field.

NO Paperwork to file either...its just an upper.:tongue_ma:

I'm getting one of these once I get my DPMS LR308B kitted out. I'm currently debating on weather or not I want an EOTech red dot or a ACOG.

looks like sport shooting and reloading are my newest hobbies.

You can get a stripped DPMS single-shot lower for $169 from www.rrarms.com. I'd be game for the 29" version, but the cost of the ammo (even reloading) steers me away from .50 BMG.

Yeah, they are between 5 and 6 bucks each round here at the gun shows....thats a hefty price. It would be hard to train effectivley with it without dropping some major dough :thumpdown

thats not a bad price..however dropping 1700 on a .50 cal upper...getting 600 bucks for ammo might make things a bit tight ;)

Re: 50cal Uppers for your AR : No paperwork

Theres another version that Gunner was telling me about where its the same deal, a .50 cal upper on an ar lower, but its alot cheaper. The draw back was that the bullet has to be "screwed" into the gun. Its not a bolt action you actualy have to take like an end cap off put in the bullet, screw the end cap back on, fire, screw it off extract the bullet, etc.

But then again, its supposedly much cheaper and really, one good shot could just do the trick with .50 Cal BMG!

*I see they have a huge muzzle brake...still...don't think I'd be using it for plinking.

Of course you could use it for plinking...what better way to take out rats and racoons?!

I wondered about the recoil myself. It doesnt seem like theres much to absorb any at all.

Much more affordable as far as the upper and ammo is the Beowulf by Alexander Arms.

A little over a buck a round and still in .50 cal. That might be the toy I buy next summer.

ok - How the hell does a standard AR15 Recoil buffer even stand up to a .50 cal?-- To say that the recoil would be pretty tough I would think would be an understatement - Not to mention screwing up your springs..

50 Beowulf looks like fun, feeds ten rounds from regular ar15 mag.
think the complete upper assy goes about 6 or 700 bucks.
loads available from 350 to 500 grains, supposed to be a great short range 200 yard plinker/ dangerous game/hog or bear gun, also useful for disabling moving vehicles, breaking up engine blocks, and miscelaneous half inch hole installation.

So with the third one posted from Watsons weapons, all you need is a larger takedown pin and the upper... switcheroo between .223 and .50BMG back and forth a piece of cake, right?

Is that one bolt action also? I can't really tell.

#8 and #9 from the FAQ section >> http://www.watsonsweapons.com/809/5952.html

8: How do I install my .50 BMG AR-15 Style Upper Receiver, extended takedown pin, and supplemental hammer spring?

A: The installation procedure for the .50 BMG AR-15 style upper receiver, extended takedown pin, and supplemental hammer spring are the same for that of any standard AR-15 upper receiver assembly. Please see the instruction on AR15.com under the "MANUALS & GUIDES" section for detailed instructions and diagrams that should help you do this.

9: What is the procedure for loading the round and shooting it?

A: First of all, you must take care not to damage the lower receiver when the weapon is open. This is a practical matter that should be followed for any AR-15 style rifle, and not just the .50 BMG upper. The reason for this is that when the weapon is open, the lower receiver is only pinned to the upper receiver at the front "dog ears" . Even if you wave your standard AR-15 around when the action is open, you will damage it. Twisting the gun puts pressure on these front ears, and they can be broken off if not treated carefully. We suggest supporting the center section of the gun whenever you have any AR-15 open, so that it does not put any undue pressure at this point.

ALWAYS KEEP YOUR WEAPON POINTED DOWN RANGE AND USE EXTREME CAUTION!After firing, turn the selector to "SAFE" Pull out the extended takedown pin and open the AR-15
(Put your left hand under the float tube behind the bipod supporting the weight of the gun).
Install the crank handle and remove the bolt by unscrewing it out of the action. Inspect the chamber and ensure that the bore is clear of any obstructions. Place a new .50 BMG round on the bolt and carefully insert it into the chamber. Completely screw in the bolt, making sure the bolt slot properly lines up with the hammer.
(If you are off in threading the bolt, the hammer won't clear the slot and prevent the weapon from firing. In addition, if you do not screw in the bolt far enough, but happen to line up the slot, the upper receiver will not close and also prevent the weapon from firing. You can check by looking under the bolt assembly and noting that the slot for the hammer will align with the hammer in your lower).
Cock the hammer by pushing it back with your finger.. Close the AR-15 and push in the extended takedown pin. Turn the selector to "FIRE" and fire the weapon

The cycle time is approximately 20 seconds for the first time shooter. The loading time for experienced shooters is much quicker.

Last I checked they were 3 months behind.

I like their product better than the others in the same price range, although I have no experience with Watson's.

I think I would enjoy a AR57 as well.

They are in the 750.00 area.

Think of it this way the first 500 supposedly went to those Blackwater merc characters.

Wouldn't you like to be at PAR with those guys if they ever attempt to come around and relieve us of out firearms ?

Anyone thinking of purchasing a .50 Beowulf upper may want to jump on it soon. I decided not to wait and placed an order two weeks ago with Alexander Arms. I called the other day to check on the order status and the woman told me it will likely be 18 weeks before it ships. She said to call again at the end of December for another update.

Ammo for this thing seems to be sold out almost everywhere you look. I placed an order for some through MidwayUSA and they don't expect to ship until Jan. some time.

Call me a pessimist, but I think it would take a lot more than the same or similar equipment to be on par with Blackwater mercs. I ain't sayin', I'm just sayin'...

Nope. The website may say that but Bohica is currently shipping orders from around December of last year.

Re: 50cal Uppers for your AR : No paperwork

If you didn't pick up a 50 yet you are going to find that it is a bit harder to get one now.

Waiting list and large mark ups are the norm now.

Panic buying ain't helping. You may have some chance at finding a used one.

Ammo is yet another thing to think about... it's drying up fast. Deals on ammo may still be out there. In September I lucked out and found 200rds. of surplus AP at a show for $290. I have a funny feeling that this months show may be a little harder on the wallet.

Good luck Guys!
